AWS announces the general availability of Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) Hpc7g instances. Amazon EC2 Hpc7g instances are powered by AWS Graviton processors, which are custom Arm-based processors designed by AWS. Arm-based architectures are known for their higher core counts with better performance per watt and their energy efficiency owing to simple instructions (RISC) that generate less heat, offering better heat dissipation.
EC2 Hpc7g instances deliver up to 60% better performance over comparable previous-generation instances for compute-intensive high performance computing (HPC) workloads such as weather and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). AWS Graviton3E-based EC2 instances provide nearly 2x higher floating-point performance and up to 2x faster cryptographic workload performance compared to AWS Graviton2 based EC2 instances. And, Hpc7g instances provide 200 Gbps of low-latency internode communication from Elastic Fabric Adapter (EFA), powered by the AWS Nitro System, for tightly coupled workloads that require highly parallelized compute resources. The Nitro System is a rich collection of building blocks that offloads many of the traditional virtualization functions to dedicated hardware and lightweight hypervisor. It delivers high performance, high availability, and high security while reducing virtualization overhead.
You can scale your HPC clusters on Hpc7g instances to run compute-intensive workloads, such as CFD, weather forecasting, and molecular dynamics. Using Hpc7g instances, you can carry out complex calculations across HPC clusters using up to tens of thousands of cores with high performance and lower costs.
Hpc7g instances are now available in 4, 8, and 16 vCPU sizes in the US East (N. Virginia) AWS Region. To optimize Hpc7g instance networking for tightly coupled workloads, you can access these instances in a single Availability Zone within a Region.
