Amazon EC2 I7ie Instances

The highest local NVMe storage density in the cloud

Why Amazon EC2 I7ie Instances?

Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) I7ie instances are powered by 3rd generation AWS Nitro SSDs offering up to 120 TB of local NVMe storage. I7ie instances offer the highest local NVMe storage density in the cloud. They use 5th generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors with an all-core turbo frequency of 3.2 GHz delivering up to 40% better compute performance and up to 20% better price performance over I3en instances. I7ie instances deliver up to 65% better real-time storage performance, 50% lower storage I/O latency, and 65% lower storage I/O latency variability compared previous generation instances. AWS Nitro SSDs are custom-designed by AWS and provide high I/O performance, real-time latency, minimal latency variability, torn write prevention and security using always-on encryption.

These instances are designed to run applications that require high throughput and real-time latency access to large amounts of data residing on instance storage such as NoSQL databases (e.g., Cassandra, MongoDB, Aerospike, HBase, RocksDB), distributed file systems, search engines, and analytics.

Benefits

I7ie instances are based on 3rd generation AWS Nitro SSD and offer up to 120 TB of instance storage, the highest local NVMe storage density in the cloud. They provide up to 65% higher real-time storage performance per TB, 50% lower storage I/O latency, and 65% lower storage I/O variability compared to I3en instances.

Reduce your cost per GB of SSD instance storage by over 40% compared to I4i instances and right-size your instance selection based on workload storage requirements.

I7ie instances are built on the AWS Nitro System, a combination of dedicated hardware and lightweight hypervisor which delivers practically all of the compute and memory resources of the host hardware to your instances for better overall performance and security.

Features

I7ie instances are powered by 5th generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors (Emerald Rapids) with an all-core turbo frequency of 3.2 GHz (max core turbo frequency of 4.0 GHz), and include support for always-on memory encryption using Intel Total Memory Encryption (TME).

I7ie instances use DDR5 memory that provides higher bandwidth compared to previous generation instances. I7ie instances support up to 60 Gbps bandwidth to Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS) and up to 100 Gbps of networking bandwidth. I7ie instances also support Elastic Fabric Adapter (EFA) on the 48xlarge size.

5th Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors offer a new built-in accelerators: Advance Matrix Extensions (AMX) accelerate matrix multiplication operations for applications such as CPU-based ML.
