Since joining Wharton in 1999, Dan has been instrumental in the School’s digital transformation, ensuring seamless integration of technology across all academic and administrative functions. His leadership has helped position Wharton at the forefront of technological advancement in higher education.
Thanks to Dan’s leadership and early adoption of AWS cloud, Wharton’s IT infrastructure was positioned to deliver new and improved services to students and faculty just as the Covid-19 pandemic began. While traditional IT organizations were struggling to gain access to equipment due to supply chain constraints, Wharton instead turned their focus to scaling existing services for their consumers. The migration enabled the Wharton team to focus on innovating with AWS native services to build more impactful solutions for their students and faculty. This cloud transformation enabled Dan’s team to more rapidly deliver cost effective resources to his consumers, well beyond what was historically provided using a legacy, on-premises strategy. As a bonus, the valuable campus real estate that previously held the data center was turned into a dynamic instructional space, allowing students access to an learning environment that more closely mimics the technologies they encounter in real business settings.
Dan earned a a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences from the University of Pennsylvania.
Dan lives in Center City Philadelphia with his wife and two daughters and enjoys exploring the city’s burgeoning food scene.

What is the AWS Champions Program?
The AWS Champions program recognizes, celebrates, and supports organizations and individuals driving digital transformation with cloud computing. AWS recognizes AWS Education Champions, AWS State and Local Government Champions, AWS EdTech Champions, and AWS GovTech Champions.
The purpose of the program is to acknowledge customers that have used AWS products and services in innovative ways to improve the service to their communities, constituents, customers, stakeholders, staff, students, faculty or researchers. Champions’ experiences and success stories serve as inspiration for other education, state and local government, EdTech and GovTech customers to reference as they think about their own digital transformation journey.
