What does ISO/IEC 42001:2023 mean to you as a customer?
Achieving ISO/IEC 42001 certification means that an independent third party has validated that AWS is taking proactive steps to manage risks and opportunities associated with AI development, deployment, and operation. This independent validation enables our customers to gain further assurances around AWS’s commitment to responsible AI and their ability to build and operate AI applications responsibly using AWS Services.

Who is the certifying body?
The AWS certification for ISO/IEC 42001:2023 is verified by Schellman Compliance, LLC, an ISO certification body accredited by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB), a member of the International Accreditation Forum (IAF). Certificates issued by Schellman Compliance, LLC are recognized as valid certificates in all countries with an IAF member.
Can my organization be ISO/IEC 42001:2023 certified by association?
Your organization is not automatically certified by association. However, if you are pursuing ISO/IEC 42001:2023 certification, the AWS certification may make it easier for you to certify. The ISO/IEC 42001:2023 certification for AWS covers the AWS AI management process over a specified scope of services as noted within AWS ISO/IEC 42001:2023 Certificate.
Can you provide a copy of the ISO/IEC 42001 standard?
No, AWS cannot distribute copies of the ISO/IEC 42001:2023 standard. A preview of the ISO/IEC 42001:2023 standard is available for free, and the full text is available for purchase, on the ISO website. ISO has made the decision to copyright their standards in an effort to help fund the processes leading to development.
