Amazon GameLift is a fully managed service that makes it simple and cost-effective to deploy, operate, and scale session-based multi-player game servers in the cloud. GameLift, which launched a month ago for two regions in North America, can now provide optimal game server performance for players in Europe and Japan.
Amazon GameLift's new autoscaling advanced feature allows you to set up GameLift to dynamically manage your server fleet capacity. This feature means that your capacity can closely follow the demand curve for your game, so you can keep costs down while still ensuring your players can get connected fast. To set up autoscaling for a fleet, you simply set up a policy that defines what type of action to take and when to trigger it. For example, an autoscaling rule might say "If the number of idle instances exceeds 20 for longer than 15 minutes, then scale down by 10 instances". The GameLift AWS Console provides tools for creating and applying autoscaling policies, or you can use the AWS CLI or the GameLift SDK. The effects of autoscaling can be tracked by viewing performance metrics in the GameLift AWS Console or in the fleet event logs.
