  • The National Hockey League is the second-oldest of the four major professional team sports leagues in North America. Today, the NHL consists of 32 Member Clubs, each reflecting the League’s international makeup, with players from more than 20 countries represented on team rosters.

    Predicting events such as face-off winning probabilities during a live game is a complex task that requires a significant amount of quality historical data and data streaming capabilities. The Amazon Machine Learning Solutions Lab partnered with NHL hockey to construct the Face-off Probability model using Apache Flink. Amazon Managed Service for Apache Flink provides the underlying infrastructure for the Apache Flink applications, removing the need to self-manage a Flink cluster and reducing maintenance complexity and costs.

    The SOCAR team used AWS Data Lab to build a new streaming data pipeline, enrich IoT data with operational data, and enhance the existing data pipeline to process complex nested JSON data. This serverless architecture helped SOCAR run data pipelines continuously and scale automatically with no setup cost and without managing servers. As a part of this architecture, Amazon Managed Service for Apache Flink is used to deliver streaming data with subsecond latencies.
