You pay by the hour for AlmaLinux 8 (Hardened), billed per running instance. Pricing is not tiered. Instead, each rate matches a specific Amazon EC2 instance type and size. Costs scale with the compute, memory, storage, or GPU capacity of the instance you pick. Smaller sizes like nano, micro, and medium carry lower hourly rates. Larger sizes such as xlarge, metal, and the high-core options cost more per hour. General-purpose, compute, memory, storage, and accelerated families are all covered. You choose the instance that fits your workload and pay only for hours used.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
One unit is one running EC2 instance of the type you select, billed per hour. The rate includes the hardened AlmaLinux 8 image with updates, firewalls, and network protocols. You pay the software rate for each instance you launch, multiplied by the hours it runs.
The software rate meters running hours only. A stopped or paused instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. You may still pay underlying AWS fees for storage attached to the stopped instance, but the AlmaLinux 8 (Hardened) software charge applies to running time.
Each running instance is billed separately at the hourly rate for its own type and size. Charges do not combine into one tier. Running a large instance and a small one at the same time produces two independent line items that add together on your invoice.

Additional Details Usage Instructions Once the instance is running, connect to it using a Secure Shell (SSH) client with the configured SSH key. The default username is 'alma-user'.
OS Commands via SSH: SSH into the running instance as 'alma-user' and use sudo for commands that require root privileges.
