The Domain Name System (DNS) is a hierarchical and decentralized naming system for devices, services, or other resources connected to the Internet or a private network. It associates various information with domain names assigned to each of the participating entities. Most prominently, it translates more readily memorized domain names to the numerical IP addresses needed for locating and identifying computer services and devices with the underlying network protocols.
This is a monolithic DNS server that provides many types of DNS service, including caching, Dynamic DNS update, zone transfer, and DNS notification. DNS notification implements a push mechanism for notifying a select set of secondary servers for a zone when it is updated.
It is a mission-critical component for any online business. Tidal Media Inc. provides you with a pre-configured image of DNS Server for Windows Server 2019, hardened and ready-to-deploy on AWS.

You pay by the hour for a ready-to-run Microsoft DNS server on Windows Server 2019. Pricing is usage-based, with a separate hourly rate tied to each supported Amazon EC2 instance type. You choose the instance size that fits your workload, spanning burstable t2 and t3 families and general-purpose m3, m4, m5, m5a, m5ad, m5d, m5dn, and m5n families. Rates scale with instance capacity, so smaller sizes like nano and micro cost less per hour than larger multi-xlarge and metal sizes. You are billed only for the hours you run.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover, and what do I actually receive?
Each hour bills one running virtual machine of your chosen Amazon EC2 instance type. The image includes a ready-to-run Microsoft DNS server on Windows Server 2019. You connect via RDP after setting a password. Larger instance types carry higher hourly rates because they provide more compute capacity.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped or powered off?
The hourly software rate meters running time only. A fully stopped instance stops accruing software charges. Stopped instances may still incur underlying AWS storage fees for the attached disk, but those are separate from the software license charge shown in the pricing table.
How do I pick which instance type rate applies to my bill?
You select one Amazon EC2 instance type at launch, and its hourly rate applies for as long as that instance runs. Rates scale with instance capacity, so burstable t2 and t3 sizes differ from general-purpose m3 through m5n sizes. Switching sizes means launching a different instance type.
