Putting sovereignty at the core of cloud security with Widdix and the AWS European Sovereign Cloud

Widdix is an independent specialist focused on IT security in the cloud, DevOps engineering, and AWS micro‑SaaS products built with infrastructure‑as‑code. Its bucketAV solution—which scans Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) object‑storage environments for viruses, malware, ransomware, and similar threats—is distributed globally through the AWS Marketplace.

Operational sovereignty is central to Widdix and its customers. The AWS European Sovereign Cloud—the only fully featured, independently run sovereign cloud designed to meet the needs of European governments and enterprises—delivers the level of control these regulated organizations expect. “For us, operational sovereignty is the most important aspect,” says Wittig. “It’s also what our customers ask about the most. When we started looking into the AWS European Sovereign Cloud, we were astonished by how much detail went into isolating that partition, both technically and organizationally.”

To deliver on customer expectations, Widdix uses core services such as Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), Amazon Simple Queue Service (Amazon SQS), and Amazon S3, alongside serverless components including AWS Lambda, AWS Step Functions, and Amazon EventBridge to build more complex, scalable architectures. “We’re currently in the process of bringing all our solutions into the AWS European Sovereign Cloud,” says Wittig. “It’s important that we have a scalable, resilient platform that we can build on.”
