Under Armour, a world leader in the sports apparel industry, chose AWS to run its Connected Fitness platform, and is using the reliability and scalability of AWS to provide a great customer experience for more than 180 million users.
Previously, Under Armour struggled to manage the rapid growth of its Connected Fitness platform when its IT resided in two external data centers. Looking for an alternative, the company selected AWS for better performance, scalability, and availability during peak periods, including weekends, New Year’s Day, and summer months when users tend to use the Connected Fitness app the most.
“Going all-in on AWS for Connected Fitness has enabled us to optimize all of our apps—including UA Record, MapMyFitness, Endomondo, and MyFitnessPal—along with an IoT hardware solution called HealthBox, which includes a scale, wristband, and heart rate monitor. It lets us deliver a seamless fitness experience to our global digital community, especially during peak seasons,” says Jesse Demmel, vice president of platform engineering at Under Armour. Demmel added that AWS also provides a secure cloud platform for developing new products. “With AWS, we can innovate faster to introduce the features our users are asking for, and we know we have the most secure, highest-performance cloud platform behind us.”
