Atlassian faced a critical challenge when the storage solution hosting its Bitbucket platform’s 2.3 petabytes of data was being retired. To solve this, Atlassian joined forces with AWS Partner NetApp to migrate that data to an Amazon Web Services (AWS) storage service that used NetApp’s ONTAP file system. The migration was seamless, resulting in no discernable customer impact and no service disruptions. Within a one-month period, Atlassian successfully migrated 60 million repositories, achieving $2.1 million in annual cost savings and reducing application latency by 17 percent.
ScaleCapacity, an AWS Partner, collaborated with the City of Los Angeles Information Technology Agency (ITA) to create a new serverless secure file transfer protocol (SFTP) solution that runs on AWS Transfer Family. With this new solution, the ITA has simplified report downloading and sharing for its customers, eased employee onboarding and offboarding processes, and avoided spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on annual management and maintenance costs for a third-party managed SFTP solution.

As a result, the ITA reduced its document management costs by 80 percent, lowered data replication time from 24 hours to 15 minutes, and scales on demand to store 500,000 additional data objects each year.

Some customers using Amazon Web Services (AWS) prohibit users from installing software from public sources. Recently, the Landing Zone Accelerator on AWS (LZA) solution added optional capabilities to support this use case. Instead of installing directly from the public LZA GitHub repository, which is the default installation path for most customers, LZA can be self-hosted from your own Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) bucket. This post shows the technical steps necessary to install LZA using Amazon S3.
