    Overview

This AMI has been packaged by Kurian using license free community versions of the software applications included for the ease of the deployment and implementing operational best practices.

HashiCorp Vault is a secrets management solution that brokers access for both humans and machines, through programmatic access, to systems. Secrets can be stored, dynamically generated, and in the case of encryption, keys can be consumed as a service without the need to expose the underlying key materials. The open source version of the Vault is a production grade secrets management system that could be integrated with your CI/CD pipeline or with any other application that requires highly secured dynamic management of secrets.

Kurian has released preconfigured software applications such as CMS platforms, Jenkins, databases, LAMP stack, Ansible, popular tools in DevOps toolchain, and monitoring applications that are widely used by system administrators and DevOps engineers. For selected Linux distributions hardened images based on CIS benchmark are also available. The Kurian AMIs are built following official installation steps so you do not need to learn any custom procedures if additional configurations need to be done.

    Highlights

    • AMI built with the latest, stable version of Hashicorp Vault.
    • AMI compatible for spinning up nodes to run Vault on a single node or in a cluster.
    • AMI is built on a patched operating system and the node created from this is ready to be deployed in production.

    Amazon Machine Image (AMI)

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

    Additional details

    Usage instructions

    • Spin up new instance using one-click from AWS console or aws cli or autoscaling options as your infrastructure provisioning process requires. The Vault service would be up and running on port 8200.
    • SSH into the new instance as user ubuntu to perform additional configurations.
    • Customers can use this AMI to build applications. It is up to the application developers where and how to store any sensitive information and to encrypt data in rest and transit and, for any such requirements, the customers may have to customize this AMI to meet the needs as determined by the working of the applications.
    • The AMI does not store any passwords or keys and it is up to the customers to rotate the secrets if that would be added as part of the customization. The AMI does not have any encrypted data that is needed for any build process.

Security vault for Cloud native or On-premise both

    Reviewed on Dec 30, 2021
    Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
Hashicorp vault is supported for both cloud native development on Azure, AWS etc & also for on-premises.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing in particular but support for autorotating keys for service account on azure windows server is missing?
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We can remove secrets like connection string or username password, certificates etc from code & can embed IAC to have secrets based on different environments like dev, QA, prod etc. Also being independent product not bound to one cloud or on-premises, code is more loosely coupled to specific platform.
