The Reverse SSH Server is a robust solution that guarantees continuous connections to your servers or IoT devices, even in private IP environments or after unexpected reboots. It uses secure SSH connections over port 22 by default, ensuring you maintain access at all times.
With easy-to-manage, client-specific, key-based authentication, you can quickly add or remove clients as needed, making it a flexible and secure option for managing remote devices. The Reverse SSH Server is an essential tool for maintaining persistent, secure connections in your highly-available AWS environment.

If you are an AWS Free Tier customer with a free plan, you are eligible to subscribe to this offer. You can use free credits to cover the cost of eligible AWS infrastructure. See AWS Free Tier for more details. If you created an AWS account before July 15th, 2025, and qualify for the Legacy AWS Free Tier, Amazon EC2 charges for Micro instances are free for up to 750 hours per month. See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay an hourly software fee tied to the EC2 instance size you run. The eight dimensions map to specific instance types: t2.micro, t2.small, t2.medium, t2.large, t3.micro, t3.small, t3.medium, and t3.large. These are not feature tiers. Each option delivers the same Reverse SSH Server software; they differ only in the underlying compute size you select. Pick the instance that matches your workload, and billing accrues per hour of use. This software fee is separate from, and additional to, the standard AWS EC2 compute charge.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Does the hourly software fee cover unlimited client connections, or am I charged per connected device?
The hourly fee ties to the running instance, not the number of clients. You can add or remove clients as your fleet changes without a separate per-client charge. Each client uses key-based authentication, generated uniquely. Clients reconnect automatically after a drop or reboot, with no added software metering.
Am I charged the software fee when the instance is stopped?
The software fee meters running instance-hours. A stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. Keep in mind that stopped instances may still incur standard AWS storage fees for the attached EBS volume. The software license bills only while the instance runs.
What is the total cost beyond the software fee shown in the table?
Your bill combines two parts. One part is the hourly software fee tied to the instance size you pick. The other is the standard AWS EC2 compute rate for that instance type. Both apply per hour of running time and appear together. Encrypting the EBS volume may add storage charges.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. We deploy hundreds of computers to schools in remote areas of Nepal. To keep those computers up-to-date with new code and content, we configure them with Reverse SSH from Salient.
When we have updates or a school computer has maintenance issues, we Reverse SSH into the computer from Kathmandu headquarters and get full access. This saves days of travel delays that would otherwise be needed to service the computers.
Set up was easy. We easily added some custom script to the standard Salient install code for our special needs.
