This is the Debian 8 x86_64 HVM AMI that has been built with a minimal profile, suitable for use in HVM instance types only. The image contains just enough packages to run within AWS, bring up an SSH Server and allow users to login. It provides a stable, secure, and high performance execution environment for all workloads.

Included with this VM is documentation, a security report provided by Citadel Audit.

Please note that this is the default Debian 8 AMI that our security professionals recommend. Citadel provides ongoing security and maintenance updates on a regular basis to all instances running Debian 8 AMIs.

    Highlights

    • Debian is one of the oldest operating systems based on the Linux kernel.
    • Debian is a popular choice for servers, for example as the operating system component of a LAMP stack.
    • Maintained and updated quarterly.
