Great project but definitely not enterprise-ready yet

What do you like best about the product?
Pros:
- easy to admin and use
- most platforms supported
- supports per-user and per-group customizations (like auth and routing), SAML and custom auth
- responsive support team
What do you dislike about the product?
Cons:
- in a cluster configuration it's impossible to customize all member servers from a single interface - admin UI switches you to a certain server and then you need to switch back to the cluster configuration; can't see all connected users (have to switch between cluster members)
- you can't restrict vpn connections to certain IPs/subnets for a user or group
- can't tweak vpn connections to fight against DPIs
- support team is responsive but helpless - all our feature requests were ignored by their developers
- no publicly available development roadmap
- inability to track vpn user activities as compliance requires
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Secure access to our environments

  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It is a cost-effective service to provide VPN capabilities to a small business.
What do you dislike about the product?
The group and user administration part is not as intuitive and simple as I would like it to be.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Remote access for third parties. An economical way to keep it separate from remote access for corporate users.

Reliable VPN Service That My Company Is Using To Let Employees Work From Home

  • August 14, 2024
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
What I love most is how easy it is to use! When I’m at home and need to access my company’s internal network, it takes just a few seconds to connect. Unlike other software products we use, the licenses aren’t tied to the number of employees, but rather to the number of concurrent users. Since our employees typically work from home just one or two days a week, this approach makes much better use of our licenses.
What do you dislike about the product?
I remember that installing and getting it to run for the first time was quite a hassle, but that was over six years ago. I’m confident they’ve made significant improvements since then.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
OpenVPN Access Server enables our employees to securely and efficiently access the company’s internal network, ensuring that all data is encrypted and protected.

Smooth expirience

What do you like best about the product?
Works out of the box. The documentation is up to date and has good step by step how to's to get started.
I installed the version for Azure and was ready to go within half an hour. The admin portal is well structured and responsive. I set up a site2site vpn and the customer support was fantastic, friendly, quick and know their stuff.
The server is in daily use and the site2site integrated seemlessly into our environment.
What do you dislike about the product?
When logging into the portal a page mit links to connect products pops up (after login creds) and when
you skip that you have to log in again.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
accessing sites (safely) that dont have a static IP

solid product, but no longer budget-friendly

  • August 14, 2024
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
This paid implementation of OpenVPN is very reliable and easy-to-use. This webGUI makes OpenVPN relatively simple to get running, and makes the common settings of OpenVPN very accessible. The solution runs equally well as on-premise or in hosted environment, and downtime is negligible. The few times I have had questions for customer support, they have been answered quickly and efficiently.
What do you dislike about the product?
The licensing cost has escalated so much over the last 5 years or so that OpenVPN Access Server is no longer a no-brainer solution for small-business VPNs. The built-in VPNs on most firewalls serve basic needs for much less, and more robust solutions with better reporting and equally flexible user access permissions are no longer wildly overpriced. I would seriously compare alternatives before implementing Access Server in a new environment.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Remote staff access to on-premise business application servers.

OpenVPN

  • August 13, 2024
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
We found OpenVPN to be a reliable and scalable VPN solution with good security features. The user interface is web based and easy to use. We found the split tunneling feature very useful not having to route all traffic back through our network.
What do you dislike about the product?
The initial setup and configuration can still be complex and the licensing costs can add up.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It has provided a secure method for our employees to access company resources and data from outside the network.

What do you like best about the product?
Easy to use, secure. Great UI. Setup is was painless
What do you dislike about the product?
Logging in every day is a pain. It could cache the authentication at least for a week.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
This solves the issue of accessing our dev and test servers. Secures our environment.

OpenVPN Access Server is a good product

  • August 13, 2024
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The best thing about OpenVPN access server is how easy it is to spin up a new VPN server and use the client to connect to it.

We have several people using the server every day and there has been very minimal issues.

The integration for an SSL certificate is also quite nice as you can install an SSL directly from the access server's portal.
What do you dislike about the product?
I do not like the admin portal within OpenVPN, the support isn't the best, and the documentation can be out-dated. Also, the last time I checked they were not being audited for SOC2 Compliance which can be a big no-go depending on your organization.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Providing us with a secure way to connect to outside services and control internal network traffic.
