Quick Implementation, Low Maintenance, Increased Accuracy!

  • October 07, 2020
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Anaplan is relatively intuitive and easy to pick up on if users have a background with MS Excel, which makes it great for system admins and power users since they typically have strong Excel backgrounds and can pick up on the syntax/logic required to build in Anaplan. I also love how quick the implementations are and the ability to have multiple use cases all within the same system (and even same workspace). There's also a strong community with forums, blogs, template models, etc. to assist organizations in their Anaplan journey.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not too much to dislike, but would like to see improvements in aggregation methods for P&L purposes aggregates everything, but would like ability to have a more flexible option of flipping signs when needed).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Connected Planning across Demand, Supply, and FP&A functions. Increased forecast accuracy in less time. Real time updates. Easily version or snapshot forecasts that isn't easily possible in other solutions.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Anaplan gets you out of big complex excel files for planning and gets you into a cloud-based tool where everyone can access everything at once.
Recommendations to others considering the product:

What do you like best about the product?
The flexibility and the power of the engine. The fact that Anaplan actually can solve pains that others can´t
What do you dislike about the product?
The reporting part is still in need of enhancement! It is to difficult when you want to use LIS and varitations with both numbers and %
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
FP&A, Supply chain and Connected planning. The main long-term benefit comes with multiple use cases. At the same time a simple use case can solve great issues for any business. You can start off with simple collect and aggregate data to complex planning across multiple disciplines.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
The more use cases implemented the more valuable the software is. Start simple and learn the power of the platform. Most companies do not know what the final product should be until they have tried, explored and tested. You learn and develop

Versatile Calculation Engine

  • September 11, 2020

What do you like best about the product?
Anaplan standardizes and promotes healthy processes and workflows within a business. It centralizes key hierarchies which are used across multiple calculations and business units, ensuring everyone is on the same page and eliminating duplication of work effort.
What do you dislike about the product?
The new UX has a grid system that does not lend itself to holding a lot of data on one dashboard. However, the improved user interface is more attractive than the previous iteration referred to as "classic dashboard"
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Anaplan is a robust calculation engine that regularly uncovers longstanding errors within excel processes. In all of my clients, once processes are moved or rebuilt in Anaplan, we have found long standing formula errors and irrelevant hardcoded values when reconciling to Anaplan. Anaplan is incredible flexible and I have personally used it across multiple use cases (monthly FP&A reporting, revue forecasting, HR management, recruitment, WFP, data hub, budget consolidation, comp planning, waterfalls)
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would highly recommend Anaplan as a calculation engine. It is an incredibly flexible tool that allows users to pick up the syntax and self govern easily compared to other systems. However, I would fully understand the reporting capabilities and limitations prior to signing on. With that in mind, I believe Anaplan is most powerful when coupled with a reporting tool such as Tableau

Master Anaplanner with over 3 years of implementation experience

What do you like best about the product?
The speed to get to complex answers. It's a very flexible tool and allows you to get to many different answers with a few pivots. It takes difficult to navigate excel documents into clean, crisp models that scale.
What do you dislike about the product?
The visualization features are limited at times but have improved with the new UX. Some features such as Assign can be a bit difficult to understand from a configuration standpoint, but the materials available online help to alleviate that.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Real time scenario modeling of highly complex financial situations. Quick diagnostic of both spend and revenue at scale. Overall visibility into details that have not been available before.

Simple, powerful, and easily leveraged

What do you like best about the product?
The best part about using Anaplan is the ease of connecting models & various use cases into a consolidated format for the end users. For example, a P&L can be the backbone of a reporting model with smaller calculation models that feed the end result. This allows the models to be more granular in nature without affecting the main submission model and reduces performance impacts on the main model.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some functions are limited (like subset of versions, subsets of users), but there are workarounds that the community has suggested. The roadmap is constantly developing and we are seeing some issues addressed with the releases. One major aspect that is recently being addressed is the key word highlighting when writing formulas. It is still in its infancy and has a bit of ways to go before it can be fully utilized.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our use cases currently include aggregating a bottoms-up forecast for financial metrics, allocations of sales data for more granular visibility into performance, a bottoms-up calculation to determine COGM by product and region. It ultimately shortens time to understand where the numbers are coming from; perform allocations with minimal interaction; integrates with 3rd party platforms via APIs. We have seen a reduction in errors per forecast and time required in the model.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Spend the time upfront to flesh out your data structures & feeds - it can save you many headaches once you're knee-deep building a model. Keep a close relationship with the ones building integrations and tables in your warehouse if you don't have a resource dedicated to your team. Otherwise, it can be cumbersome to develop the proper connections for your data automation processes.
