First experience on "the other side of the table" was great with Laika's help!!!
What do you like best about the product?
The compliance playbooks and detailed resources that were provided along with them. The team is great as well. We maintained a weekly standing meeting to update our progress and give me an opportunity to ask any questions as we designed and implemented our SOC controls. I am a former bank examiner and risk manager for a community bank so I read through numerous SOC reports throughout the years but never had to actually prepare and implement the controls. Plus, information security was not my expertise in my prior life and that is a big chunk of our risk/compliance posture given our business model. What seemed like a daunting task was made much easier thanks to Laika's detailed implementation playbooks and our customer success rep and compliance architect. We started from just about nothing as a brand new 4-person start-up and just got our SOC 2 Type 1 certification in a matter of months. The Laika team is already prepping us for the Type 2 audit, just days after we received our Type 1 report.
The audit process itself was very smooth and I like the way all the evidence uploaded as part of the playbooks is organized and used for the audit piece.

What do you dislike about the product?
Looking back, I got hung up a lot on some of the more technical aspects and while Laika had a lot of resources, I do see a need to provide some more "in the weeds", technically-focused resources. I am mainly thinking about compliance / knowledge base resources for the major cloud computing providers like AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure for example. I think this is critically important for startups like us that don't have a lot of in-house technical expertise (developers, engineers, etc.). I know this is an area they are working on as I've seen the enhancements made to their application and the resources, and just from talking to the team I know they are adding in some more training to keep their staff knowledgeable and up to date. That said, the responsibility to educate ourselves on these aspects obviously falls to us first and foremost, but I just think investing in providing some more technically-focused aspects would improve and differentiate the platform.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Initial planning and implementation of SOC controls and planning for ongoing compliance. Laika was great to have as an initial plan on how to implement controls across the company to achieve SOC 2 compliance. The platform takes the certification requirements and maps them out to different required controls in your playbooks and that makes wrapping your head around the work much easier. I love the fact that my Laika team immediately transitioned from getting our Type 1 issued to talking about what it takes to prep for and achieve the Type 2 certification. That is the next problem on my list to tackle and its great to know my Laika team will be there to help.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Get a complete understanding of what the application can and cannot do - not a good or bad thing in general but I should have done a better job of understanding the activity that can be done in Laika and how that translates into being able to provide evidence at a later date.
Fully adopt the platform from the get-go - Get all your team members signed up and familiar with the platform and use it to assign and divvy up responsibilities. I took the approach that I'm the only one that needs to use the platform so I'll live there and get everyone else what they need but that's not the best way. The functionality to collaborate with your team is there so use it. Have conversations in the beginning with the decision-makers in your organization and decide what you want to use the platform for and what you don't so you can address that from the beginning.

The assistance you get from the Laika team, from the weekly check-in meetings to the help with deciding what evidence to upload and working around any issues that appear
What do you dislike about the product?
The Laika platform is going through constant updates, leading to some bugs appearing that weren't there previously. One of the fields I have to input information into will glitch out all the time, leading me to have to delete everything I've entered and then input all the information again from scratch
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Some bugs pop up here and there due to all the platform's updates, but the team usually addresses them within a week. As for benefits, we are learning everything our company needs to handle, and receiving guidance to prepare for future audits
Laika has been instrumental in standing up our Information Security program!
What do you like best about the product?
The white glove support with audit prep and audit completion is amazing. Having a sounding board and GRC partner with our lean organization is really beneficial.
What do you dislike about the product?
The platform wasn't great at assisting in program management over time but that is getting better every week! We are excited for the new features coming out and our feedback is always valued.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is a great place for our central source of truth across the entire program. It keeps our program materials and evidence organized and easily shareable. We also love our account managers and the help they provide for risk assessments and internal audit.

Laika provides a fantastic team and platform to support the building and actual implementation of an information security program for your organization's security goals.
Great help and easy to get our certifications and be in compliance
What do you like best about the product?
The whole team is actively involved in the process of getting us prepared and audit the company in order to get our certifications renewed.
The tool they have to follow the implementation of a certification as well as for the audit process is very helpful and easy to use as it has all the information needed to understand where we are in the process and what could be missing. It also integrates with some of our systems and monitor compliance.

The audit process plan was not updated causing some delays and for us to go through some pain. This situation was talked with the Thoropass team and now was solved for the next audit process.

Thoropass has a reliable and straightforward compliance process that helps the company get the needed certifications passed without any complications.

What do you like best about the product?
Laika's great software combined with their wonderful staff makes going through the SOC2 compliance process a breeze!
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes the software can be a bit slow, and there's the occasional glitch, but they're generally quick to respond when there are any issues.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Without a tool like Laika, any sort of compliance process like SOC2 is incredibly painful, difficult, and slow. Laika takes so much of the guesswork out of the process, as well as giving you a ton of peace of mind by having experienced pros coaching you throughout the entire process.

What do you like best about the product?
As a practitioner, I had some experience with the SOC 2 audit process. This was my first experience running the audit for my company.
The Thoropass playbooks do a great job of guiding you through implementing the required policies and controls. Couple that with knowledgeable and friendly staff and we were able to complete our SOC 2 Type 1 in 3 months!
Since then, we have completed two SOC 2 Type 2 reviews. The integration with the independent auditor makes evidence sharing and tracking follow-ups easy.

Nothing that I can think of. We had some minor hiccups that were always addressed quickly with fantastic communication.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have clients that require us to be SOC 2 compliant. The company is still very young and needed to build our compliance program from the ground up. Thoropass provided the compliance framework, guided us through the audites, and ultimately helped us achieve SOC 2 compliance.

Laika is a fantastic company to work with. They know what they are doing and take a lot of the guesswork out of the compliance process.

What do you like best about the product?
I like how responsive and professional their team is. Laika stood out among other options we considered in their legal expertise and willingness to review your existing policies. They also worked with us to hit a demanding timeline.
What do you dislike about the product?
The software can sometimes be a little clunky, and a few times, we had to resubmit data that they should have been able to pull from our API. Laika broke the SOC2 process into two phases. I wonder if it would have been more straightforward and faster if there was just one phase.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Complete a SOC2 audit. Laika helped us do that quickly.
A bit clunky but does its job and comes with no-added cost SOC 2 audits.
What do you like best about the product?
SOC 2 audits are built into the price of the product, so you don't have to worry about finding an external auditor and/or budget creep because you need to pay for a separate external auditor.
What do you dislike about the product?
The UI tends to get a bit clunky and definitely could be more built out. A lot of fairly easy quality of life features are missing - for example, the option to edit vendors in bulk. Integrations can also be a bit hit or miss (GCP integrations were broken for a while, Bamboo HR integrations are broken currently). Policies are really really long winded compared to a lot of other similar products, which feels super unnecessary.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It does do its job of getting you to SOC 2 compliance with less effort at a very reasonable cost! Not sure where the prices / savings in price compare to other similar vendors, though.

Weekly check-in meetings help facilitate a cadence to get things done AND a user-friendly dashboard helps manage tasks and to-do's.

As with any software, a bug now and then...they all got addressed.
