Brightspace shines for designer flexibility
What do you like best about the product?
As a course designer, the flexibility is my favorite part of Brightspace. The D2L community pages have so many great templates and shared resources. I love the options to add tabs and accordians to pages as well as consistent page headers and footers. The checklists are another favorite feature. I have wished for all of these options when using another LMS. As a newbie, I really appreciated the Brightspace guided courses which got me pretty thoroughly acquianted with the platform quickly. There are still advanced features that I haven't mastered yet, but I am having fun learning because most of Brightspace is easy and intuitive to navigate.
What do you dislike about the product?
The area in which I'm hoping to see some additional features added is the reporting. I miss some of easy to generate and customize reports that I have used in another LMS.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I work in online education. We use Brightspace for all of our courses. It provides security, seamless content delivery, and community for our online students.

D2L Experience SAE Mexico
What do you like best about the product?
D2L has significantly enhanced the learning experience for our students at SAE Mexico. The platform's user-friendly interface and robust set of tools have made it easier for both instructors and students to engage in the learning process. Features such as discussion boards, assignment submission, and integrated grading have streamlined many of the day-to-day tasks, allowing our faculty to focus more on teaching rather than administrative duties. Overall, D2L has been a valuable asset in supporting our educational goals and improving the overall student experience.
What do you dislike about the product?
While D2L has many strong points, there are some areas where it could improve to better serve the needs of SAE Mexico and our students. One significant challenge we've encountered is the limited storage space for assignment submissions, which has been a particular issue since our students often need to upload large files, such as multimedia projects and design portfolios. This limitation has occasionally caused delays and frustrations. However, we are actively working with D2L support to resolve this issue and explore solutions that will better accommodate our students' needs.

D2L Brightspace is addressing several key challenges in our educational environment at SAE Mexico, particularly in streamlining course management and enhancing student engagement. The platform solves problems related to organizing course content, tracking student progress, and facilitating communication between instructors and students. With its centralized system, Brightspace allows for efficient assignment submissions, grading, and feedback, reducing the administrative burden on our faculty. This, in turn, allows them to focus more on delivering high-quality education.
For students, the learning experience within D2L Brightspace is immersive and accessible. The platform provides a consistent and intuitive interface where students can easily access course materials, participate in discussions, and submit assignments. The integration of multimedia content, quizzes, and interactive modules supports various learning styles, ensuring that students remain engaged and motivated. Es una plataforma muy intuitiva, accesible y facil de usar desde la perpectiva como administrador y usuario. Su ambiente es muy actual y de vanguardia. Sus seguimientos y soporte tecnico una vez implementada la plataforma hacen mas sencillo la administración.
Desde la compra de la plataforma recibes un acompañamiento y seguimiento en la configuracion con base a las necesidades.
Su integración es rapida, agil y sin demoras. Tienes acceso todos los dias por diferentes dispositivos, facilitando el acceso a la informacion en dodne quiera que estes.

What do you dislike about the product?
Al ser un LMS, los contenido de la plataforma se genera aparte, pues no cuenta con cursos precargados. Sin embargo pose herramientas dentro de que facilitan la carga y realizacion de cursos.

Tenemos una dispersion geografica en LATAM, por lo que facilita llegar en tiempo y forma a cualquier lugar y por el volumen de personal que se tiene, permite llevar la administracion colectiva e individual de los empleados. Asi como tener el reporteo de forma mas rapida.

Lo más útil de Brightspace es, sin duda, el Centro de Calificaciones, especialmente por su capacidad para integrar criterios de evaluación de manera clara y organizada. Esta función facilita enormemente la labor docente, permitiendo un seguimiento detallado del rendimiento estudiantil.

Sin embargo, una limitación que he encontrado es en la funcionalidad del botón de "Administrar Archivos", ya que no permite identificar fácilmente la ruta de cualquier archivo almacenado, lo que puede complicar la gestión eficiente de los recursos dentro de la plataforma.

Brightspace ha sido una herramienta invaluable en la Universidad Iberoamericana, permitiéndome, como instructora, brindar un apoyo integral tanto a docentes como a estudiantes. La desventaja de usar D2L Brightspace es que no posee una herramienta integrada que detecte el plagio o el uso de IA en comparación con otras plataformas para el aprendizaje en línea.

No contar con una herramienta para detectar el plagio o uso de la IA como safeassign en blackboard collaborate o unicheck en canvas, por citar dos ejemplos.

Esta herramienta ha sido excelente para la gestión de cursos. Es fácil de usar y muy intuitiva. Su integración y conectividad con otras herramientas y sistemas permiten automatizar procesos y optimizar tiempos.
Su soporte técnico es ágil y efectivo, y cuentan con programas de mejora continua y corrección de errores, lo que enriquece la experiencia del usuario.

D2L - Refined LMS Platform designed for Schools, with many features behind paywalls.
What do you like best about the product?
D2L Brightspace has a high level of customizability, and has been designed with inclusive learning strategies and capabilities. I enjoyed the learner moose mascot that accompanied D2L certificate training.
I also enjoyed select members of the D2L support team that were assigned to my account, who are professional, reliable, and helpful.

What do you dislike about the product?
Frequent staff turnover of D2L representatives assigned to our contract, meant a lot of wasted time bringing new D2L team members up to speed on our needs/status, only to have those people replaced again. I can't even remember half the names of the people that were a revolving door on our file.
Many of the features that D2L uses to sell itself to potential clients do not come standard. There are multiple paywalls, that can be a surprise to clients who believed they were getting all of the functionality that D2L uses in it's marketing and instructional training content. Support for screen readers, Creator Plus, Performance Plus, Storefront...everything was at an additional fee.

Even the training provided to companies for their super admins is focused on how D2L can be utilized for teachers/schools. It didn't adequately suit our purpose for utilizing the platform.

Growing with the times
What do you like best about the product?
The opportunities to professionalize our training has been ongoing with our service since 2020, when we started using them. We are a corporate customer. We have used professional services to get us started and we can now create most of our content, it is just a matter of time. When we first came onboard, we uploaded our current scorm content from another provider and have been building courses with HTML pages as we have been updating our courses. We have recently added Creator Plus which will make creating the pages easier.
We work closely with our Customer Success team, attend conferences to gain more knowledge of the product.
You can be as engaged as you want to be and this has helped to move our growth along.
We have been able to integrate with our HRIS to create users, put users into groups and disable users when they are on leave or terminated.

What do you dislike about the product?
This is not an issue perse with Brightspace, but having the time to create the content is always the issue.
I don't need a checklist now when creating content, but certainly, needed to ensure to follow the steps to get courses ready to publish in the beginning.
If there was one thing, it would be the attributes cannot be changed manually, they need to be done by uploading .csv.
