Overview

As AI coding agents accelerated software development, Katalon saw a growing gap between the speed of code production and the ability of Quality Assurance (QA) teams to test and release software. Using Amazon Web Services (AWS), Katalon built True Platform, an AI-driven, unified software quality platform that combines autonomous AI agents with human oversight to help organizations accelerate testing while maintaining governance and traceability. QA teams are now testing AI-developed code 50 percent faster, while Katalon has improved return on investment (ROI) by 30 percent by running its AI models on AWS.

About Katalon

Founded in 2016, Katalon is redefining software testing for the AI era. Its leading AI-powered software quality platform is helping over 30,000 teams test and ship high-quality digital experiences faster.

Opportunity | Closing the velocity gap in AI-driven software delivery

With AI coding agents accelerating software development, Katalon saw a widening gap between the speed of code development and the ability of QA teams to validate the software without slowing down the release. The company wanted to address this challenge so organizations, particularly those in heavily regulated industries such as banking and financial services and insurance, could adopt AI-powered development while maintaining governance, traceability, and human oversight.

To help QA teams keep pace, Katalon set out to build an AI-augmented, unified software quality platform. The platform needed to give AI agents greater autonomy while ensuring their actions remained tracked and auditable to support regulatory requirements. Katalon also needed to optimize model cost, latency, and quality without compromising engineering productivity or confidence in the results.

Solution | Building governed AI agents with Amazon Bedrock AgentCore

Katalon built True Platform on AWS, an AI-augmented software quality platform that brings test management, planning, creation, execution, and analysis into a unified environment. The platform uses Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (Amazon EKS) to orchestrate its microservices, with Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) providing the underlying compute. Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS) supports its databases, while Amazon Kinesis provides real-time data streaming from multiple endpoints.

As a multi-tenant software-as-a-service (SaaS) offering, True Platform needed to isolate AI agent sessions to protect customer data. Using Amazon Bedrock AgentCore Runtime, Katalon creates a dedicated runtime session each time a user starts a chat, while Amazon Bedrock AgentCore Observability tracks agent actions for monitoring and audit purposes. Son Dao, principal software engineer at Katalon, says, “We found that Amazon Bedrock AgentCore Runtime gave us the right balance of agent speed, latency, and governance. It completely fit the bill.”

Katalon uses Amazon Bedrock to run its AI models, giving the company flexibility to optimize for cost, latency, and model performance. Keeping its AI workloads on AWS also simplifies scaling as adoption grows. Requests flow through Amazon CloudFront before being distributed across the platform, with Amazon Simple Queue Service (Amazon SQS) supporting asynchronous workloads.

The company launched True Platform in April 2026. Its Katalon AI Assistant provides a natural language interface for orchestrating end-to-end testing workflows, while purpose-built AI agents analyze requirements, generate and maintain test cases, execute tests, detect bugs, and surface actionable insights. Alex Martins, vice president of strategy at Katalon, says, “The Katalon True Platform is where speed meets trust, with our AI agents handling the heavy QA lifting while humans stay in control of release quality.”

Outcome | Speeding up tests for AI developed code by 70%

Using True Platform on AWS, QA teams are accelerating software testing cycles by 70 percent. For Katalon, running its AI models through Amazon Bedrock has improved ROI by 30 percent. As agentic AI usage scaled in production, Amazon Bedrock AgentCore Runtime handled 9,956 production invocations across 5,365 sessions by August 26, more than seven times July’s total volume, providing the foundation Katalon needs to operate agentic AI reliably and securely at scale.

Martins says, “True Platform on AWS is becoming the system of record for software quality for AI-driven coding. Our governance foundation means every decision is traceable, every action is controlled, and human teams stay in the loop. That's what separates intelligent quality engineering from AI testing hype.”

True Platform is also helping customers consolidate their software testing workflows. QualityKiosk, a Katalon customer and partner, uses the platform to bring test creation, execution, management, and analytics into one environment.  Shiladitya Roy Chaudhury, senior vice president and head of consulting and advisory services at QualityKiosk, says, “At QualityKiosk, we have spent years building one of the most respected quality engineering practices in the industry. Partnering with Katalon and adopting Katalon True Platform has sharpened that edge considerably. One platform, purpose-built AI agents, and a unified view of quality across the entire lifecycle. It is exactly what enterprise QA teams need to thrive in an AI-driven world.”
