Office Communication
What do you like best about the product?
Once our office fully bought into using Asana we were able to reduce the amount of inter-office emails. This helped declutter my inbox by removing inter-office communication. Now my inbox is much more easy to navigate, and only includes communication with individuals outside of my office.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can be overwhelming when you begin to use it until you get the setup that meets your requirements.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Asana to communicate within our own office, but also to communicate with our Franchise owner. Using this software to communicate with our entire company has eliminated hundreds of emails from my inbox. I can now easily navigate my inbox for important messages without having to wade through countless emails and memos.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
This will drastically help improve and streamline your office communication, and remove the strain on emails.

I threw away my notepad. Great product. The Free version is excellent
What do you like best about the product?
I "test-drove" several project management tools before I settled on ASANA. That's how I start my work dark day now: I open up an ASANA tab, have a look at my daily tasks and go about my business. I have job responsibilities with 5 distinct teams. I love how you can create teams, projects and then all kinds of lists. The experience is seamless across both my Mac and iPhone.
What do you dislike about the product?
The tool is quite complex and it takes a while to learn how to properly use all it's features. I made some work-arounds to better suit my work style and it's doing its job well now.
I would love to have Siri integration to allow for easy additions similar with the native IOS Reminders app.
I wish there were a way to gradually get people who are dead set in their ways to adopt ASANA. For many, the complexity of the tool is quite intimidating.

This is a great project management tool. If you have numerous individuals that you are partnering with on several projects... and new tasks come up day by day, then this is a great tool for you! ASANA is what I use for taking notes during meetings, no more pen and paper!! YESS!
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Give it some time. You need to use it for a couple weeks and then it becomes second nature. Your and your teams productivity will increase tremendously if you get all the team members to use the same tool, namely, ASANA. Ideally, you would want management to make the product mandatory for all to use.
Great product management software
What do you like best about the product?
Easy to use, free platform for project management. I've used it for several different organizations on multiple projects. I like that it tracks my projects and makes it easy to manage what my teammates are working on and where they're at on their projects.
What do you dislike about the product?
Is heavy on email notifications to start. The plethora of email messages can turn off new users who dislike the over-notification.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Solves the need to track and manage multiple concurrent projects with multiple team members and cross-functional roles. I wear multiple hats in multiple organizations. Asana helps me keep track of numerous projects across those organizations to make sure I'm tracking project status and to-do lists.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
A little verbose to set up, but overall you'll find it an efficient and effective tool to manage your projects.
I use Asana more every day!
What do you like best about the product?
There are many features about Asana that I like, so it's hard to choose one that I like "best.' If I had to pick one, though, I think it would be the way they celebrate accomplishing projects. It's silly really, but I work hard all day long and check things off just so I can get that unicorn to fly across my screen!
Aside from that gamification, I like that Asana is easy to use. I can track whole projects and make each project into smaller steps. I can see at a glance if I am on track, and I can see how my team mates are doing. I can even get my less "tech savvy" team mates to use it because to them, they use it as a ToDo List.

What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing. No I mean it--the more I learn about Asana, the more I use it and the more I like it. I have yet to run into a feature it didn't have, and if I have a question, they are responsive and friendly. Honestly I can't think of anything I dislike.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our team is virtual and we happen to live on opposite coasts. We have one person managing marketing, another managing programs, another managing membership, and all three need to use the email software, but with Asana, we can tell who is supposed to be sending out an email today, tomorrow, etc. and coordinate the best time to send something out rather than just guessing.
But as a department manager, for me Asana is invaluable for both managing my team and for being able to see my Directors' progresses and give them extra assistance where they need it. Usually it makes me look like a superstar because I can anticipate their needs based on where they are "getting stuck."

Use it!
Best project management app for free
What do you like best about the product?
Great user interface, especially on the desktop. Asana definitely a much more user friendly experience than some of it's competitors, like Trello and Teamwork.
The features includes tasks, an inbox, a calendar (only on desktop), and conversations (which function more as a commenting system on a particular topic).
Lastly, there is a desktop application (versus going to asana.com to login and make that a browser window). The app works great but it was a paid app unlike being free on a smartphone.

What do you dislike about the product?
No live chat feature. What is available is "conversations," which functions more like a comment feed on a topic -- which this is not exactly the most user friendly way to organize comments, in my opinion.
In addition to disorganization comment feeds, I'd like to see better organization of the tasks and inbox. Perhaps filters, tags, categories, or even just ability to minimize what I don't want to view so that it's not simply a continuous scroll all the way down the page to view a task or inbox message at the bottom.
I dislike that the calendar is only available on the desktop version as it would be nice to be able to see the monthly or weekly view from the mobile app.

A separate location where our small team can keep organized without clogging up emails and configuring different Dropbox/Box/Evernote accounts. It is such a wonderful way to streamline behind-the-scene business activity.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Use the desktop version for the calendar.
Great for Teams and Task Management
What do you like best about the product?
You are able to assign tasks to yourself, as well as colleagues within a group, or other departments. You have to ability to to customize you task list view, or view it in a per-determined display. I like that you can have a team calendar, as well as a team chat section.
What do you dislike about the product?
Whereas you can customize the display, sometimes colleagues don't utilize the tools settings and can be less detailed oriented then you are, so tasks will not appear in the same format.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Team management, Task management. We are able to work across departments and achieve team goals in a more timely manner.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Great for teams both small and large, but be sure that you train your team on how you see it best fit for your company to utilize the system. It will be a very valuable tool if you can get everyone on board!
Installation Management
What do you like best about the product?
I like being able to assign tasks to different people within individual projects. I personally operate very well with postits and so I feel like Asana allows for me to make virtual postits that I can share with others.
What do you dislike about the product?
I have not yet figured out how to easily set things to not receive so many emails. Also, I think the default is only seeing the tasks remaining (unchecked) but I'd probably like to see all of the items, checked or unchecked.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It basically replaces the need for disparate checklists and dozens of post its. It has minimized out need for a lot of paperwork. I also like that I can access my work when I'm not at work.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It is incredibly user friendly.
Very good project management
What do you like best about the product?
From organization to teams to project, Asana does a good job of organizing a project. My absolute favorite aspect is the custom fields. However, keep in mind, you only get custom fields when you pay the annual cost for Asana. It's pretty inexpensive in comparison to other project management softwares in the industry, however, it still isn't crazy cheap.
What do you dislike about the product?
The ABSOLUTE BIG DISLIKE is the lack of a mac app. We would love to have a native mac app that notified us of conversations happening, tasks being completed, etc., but that hasn't yet been developed. I would also love to see gantt charts integration in the future. Right now, it's hard to have the client see a visual of all that we are creating, but gantt charts would help tremendously.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Before Asana we found it hard to organize projects. But, with a paid subscription to Asana and the ability to create custom fields, it's allowing us to manage multi step projects with ease. We typically add clients to the project so they can see, in real time, the progress we are making. It allow for full transparency on how we are progressing and makes the client feel comfortable with doing business with us.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Give it a shot with the free version first. However, know that what really helped us take PM to the next level was the ability to create custom fields in each project. It makes the project tasks lists way more manageable.
Good for small projects. Needs work for medium / large projects
What do you like best about the product?
The conversational model with tasks makes it great to converse with clients and get immediate feedback. Drag and drop for attachments is a big time saver and the tagging feature works great when you need to gain additional feedback from a team member.
Asana saves on the fly as you move for each field, so there is no save button to find, as opposed to other systems like JIRA, which makes for fast task entry. Once you learn a few formatting tricks, such as the > or the : symbol in a section "title", it makes it easy to break out your tasks into sections.
Tagging is quite handy as well, especially during the final phase of a project when you are identifying bugs vs features. Since tags can be anything, I've often used them to put hourly estimates on time to completion.

While there are "row numbers" that you can have visible in a project, the only "unique Id" that you have for a task is a GUID. This can make it hard at times when you're trying to point a user to a task through an alternate channel (such as Slack) or if the task gets moved around the list and you're trying to find it again. I have resorted to simply adding our own "ID" in our task titles for this kind of visual representation.
Because of this, when you start dealing with medium to large projects with a lot of tasks, the list can become a little overwhelming to look at. There is a "sub-task" feature which can help alleviate that, and I've had mixed results with that. I personally find drilling down into sub-tasks to get important details or conversation a little time consuming. If the sub-task is a simple title/name, this works out well.

Asana has worked out well to get our ever changing customer base in synch with our project work for them. It has allowed us to move away from e-mail as the primary means of communication for tasks / features we are building. It allows us to collaboratively update a task, which wasn't possible before.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you have a medium/large scale project, consider adding "status categories" and move your tasks into there are they are ready for review or are completed. While this doesn't provide a true Kanban style board (something I hope they implement) it will help make sure important action items aren't lost in the list of tasks to do.
I have enjoyed using Asana overall but would love to see a few improvements.
What do you like best about the product?
I love the ability to assign projects to my team and track my own tasks using deadlines and projects.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish there was an easier way to create templates for tasks that are repeatable (i.e. every new client we register, every event we plan) and we use the same process each time. Right now we have created a project that we duplicate which is fine but is not user friendly. I would love to be able to use Zapier to create a new project once we close a deal.
I also wish I could assign multiple people to one task! Sometimes it's a team effort to complete a task.

We are a nonprofit organization that is providing entrepreneurship & business education to young adults with developmental disabilities. We are a small organization (a team of 3) and are using Asana to be more productive.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
This is a great resource for small teams to better work together on projects!
