An attendee’s guide to AWS Global Infrastructure and Sustainability at AWS re:Invent 2024

Don’t miss AWS Global Infrastructure & Sustainability at re:Invent 2024!

AWS re:Invent 2024 kicks off on Dec. 2 in Las Vegas, N.V., bringing together AWS builders, customers, partners, and IT professionals from around the world. At re:Invent 2024 you’ll get a front row seat to hear real stories from customers and AWS leaders about navigating pressing topics, like generative AI. Learn about new product launches, watch demos, and get behind-the-scenes insights during five headline-making keynotes. AWS leaders—including AWS CEO Matt Garman and special guest Andy Jassy, CEO, Amazon.com—will take the stage along with top AWS customers.

There are over 2000+ learning sessions that focus on specific topics at various skill levels, and this year the AWS Global Infrastructure and Sustainability Teams are excited to host 57 sessions across three tracks: AWS Hybrid Cloud, AWS Content Delivery, and AWS Sustainability. In addition to the breakout sessions, you can explore AWS Infrastructure innovations at Kiosk 14 in the AWS Village (Booth 748) on the Expo floor, and visit the Sustainability Showcase at Caesars Forum, Level 1, Forum Pre-function 2, where we will highlight our global sustainability offerings and have AWS experts on hand to answer questions.

Here is what to expect across the three tracks:

AWS Hybrid Cloud Track: Sessions, chalk talks, and workshops

AWS hybrid cloud services deliver a consistent AWS experience wherever you need it – from the cloud, to on premises, and at the edge. Select from the broadest set of compute, networking, storage, security, identity, data integration, management, monitoring, and operations services to build hybrid architectures that meet your specific requirements and use cases. The Hybrid Cloud track will include five breakout sessions including a Leadership Session by Jan Hofmeyr, AWS VP of EC2 Networking and Edge. There will also be six chalk talks, and four workshops that will cover a variety of topics, including AWS Local Zones, AWS Dedicated Local Zones, and AWS Outposts.

HYB201 | AWS wherever you need it: From the cloud to the edge
Although most workloads prefer cloud migration, certain ones need on-premises or edge deployments because of low latency, local data processing, or digital sovereignty concerns. Jan Hofmeyr, AWS VP of EC2 Networking and Edge, will be joined by Jeff Feist, Executive Director of Hosting Solutions for Merck & Co., Inc., to discuss AWS services such as AWS Outposts, AWS Local Zones, and AWS Dedicated Local Zones, which enable hybrid cloud and edge computing solutions for a broad range of workloads across healthcare and life sciences, financial services, manufacturing, gaming, public sector, and other industry sectors.

HYB307 | Delivering low-latency applications at the edge
AWS hybrid cloud brings AWS closer to your end users and workloads. This session will show you how to run latency-sensitive sessions around the world and showcase examples of how organizations are deploying single-digit millisecond latency across multiple sectors.

HYB308 | Migrating your VMware workloads with on-premises dependencies
Join this session to learn how AWS hybrid and edge services like AWS Outposts and AWS Local Zones help you to migrate in place and modernize at your own pace. You will also learn various migration pathways with Outposts and the migration tools and programs that you can use to simplify and accelerate transition to the cloud.

HYB309 | Well-architected for data residency with hybrid cloud services
Countries worldwide are strengthening data residency laws to keep sensitive data within their borders, posing challenges for multinational organizations. Come learn best practices for data residency using AWS hybrid cloud services like Local Zones, Dedicated Local Zones, and Outposts, following the AWS Well-Architected Framework.

HYB318 | Building generative AI applications with on-premises and edge data
Learn how customers in regulated industries leverage generative AI to manage customer data. This session will cover the selection, fine-tuning, and deployment of small language models (SLMs) for various locations using AWS services, including how to implement Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) with on-premises data to enhance prompt outcomes. It also explores model trade-offs and architectural best practices for security, scalability, and high availability in these scenarios.

For a full list of sessions, visit the Hybrid Solutions sessions list.

In addition to our sessions, make sure to visit AWS Global Infrastructure at Kiosk 14, inside the AWS Next Gen Infrastructure Hub at the AWS Village (Booth 748) on the Expo floor. This year, we are bringing all our infrastructure innovations to the booth. You will have the opportunity to examine our custom-designed chips, switches, optical devices, fiber cabling systems, and Outposts racks and servers up close and in person.
