What’s Next for VMware Workloads on AWS?
AWS and VMware (now part of Broadcom) have been investing and innovating since 2016 to help make it easy for VMware customers to migrate and modernize their VMware-based workloads on AWS to achieve the scalability, agility, and cost benefits of the cloud. In the hundreds of VMware-related conversations we have had over the past year, customers and partners alike consistently tell us they are looking for more options that enhance the experience of running VMware-based workloads on AWS.
We are committed to delivering VMware customers the most choice and flexibility when it comes to running their VMware-based workloads in the cloud and continue to expand our migration and modernization pathways, programs, and partnerships to support their needs. Alongside customers who have chosen Broadcom’s VMware Cloud on AWS managed service, we hear that others would prefer a first-party AWS offering that provides an easy on-ramp to the elasticity and scale of AWS coupled with familiar VMware tools.
Addressing VMware on AWS needs – Amazon Elastic VMware Service
I am pleased to share that we are launching a preview of Amazon Elastic VMware Service (Amazon EVS), a new, native AWS service for customers to run VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) within their Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC). With this new service, customers can take advantage of VMware Cloud Foundation license portability entitlement to run their VMware-based workloads alongside other applications in AWS. Amazon EVS simplifies deployment and provides a ready-to-use VCF environment, allowing customers to quickly migrate VMware-based virtual machines to AWS, while using the same VCF software they already use on-premises.
Amazon EVS unlocks the agility, cost-savings and scale benefits of AWS without having to refactor or re-platform. Customers can set up a complete VCF environment in just a few hours using EVS’ guided configuration and automated deployment, allowing them to move, extend, and scale applications on AWS. EVS provides customers the flexibility and control to configure infrastructure that is highly optimized for their specific workloads, and gives them the freedom to extend on-premises networks and migrate workloads without having to change IP addresses, retrain staff, or re-write operational runbooks. EVS customers can use the same VCF features and tools they are familiar with for management, monitoring, and automation, including third-party tools for backup, disaster recovery, and storage. Customers can easily enhance these workloads using other native AWS capabilities and explore modernizing over time.
