AWS attendee guide for Front-End Web and Mobile Development track at re:Invent 2021

AWS re:Invent is a learning conference hosted by Amazon Web Services for the global cloud computing community. We are super excited to join you at the 10th annual re:Invent to share the latest from AWS leaders and discover more ways to learn and build. Let’s celebrate this milestone that will be offered in person in Las Vegas (November 29-December 3) and in virtual (November 29–December 10) formats. The AWS Front-End Web and Mobile Development track at re:Invent offers you with content about set of tools and services to support development workflows for native iOS/Android, React Native, and JavaScript developers. These sessions enable organizations to build web and mobile applications faster and scale with confidence. They help you deliver secure apps that scale from prototype to millions of users, automatically. This blog post highlights the sessions from the Cloud Operations track that you shouldn’t miss.

Breakout Sessions

AWS re:Invent breakout sessions are lecture-style and one hour long. These sessions are delivered by AWS experts, customers, and partners, and they typically include 10–15 minutes of Q&A at the end. For our virtual attendees, breakout sessions will be made available on demand in the week after re:Invent.

  • FWM201 Accelerate front-end web and mobile development with AWS Amplify

User-facing web and mobile applications are the primary touchpoint between organizations and their customers. To meet the ever-rising bar for customer experience, developers must deliver high-quality apps with both foundational and differentiating features. AWS Amplify helps front-end web and mobile developers build faster front to back. In this session, review Amplify’s core capabilities like authentication, data, and file storage and explore new capabilities, such as Amplify Geo and extensibility features for easier app customization with AWS services and better integration with existing deployment pipelines. Also learn how customers have been successful using Amplify to innovate in their businesses.

  • FWM204 Building the re:Invent app with Amazon Location Service

Thousands of guests come to Las Vegas to participate in AWS re:Invent, the biggest annual AWS event. Attendees move from venue to venue to attend breakout sessions, chalk talks, and more. To help them get where they need to go, AWS provides transportation and directions. In this session, learn how Amazon Location Service is helping the re:Invent team provide attendees and fleets with accurate information on routes, locations, distances, and estimated travel times. See how they are utilizing a fully managed serverless solution to support attendees with clear and trustworthy location data and how you can do the same at your own events.

Chalk Talks

Chalk Talks are highly interactive sessions with a small audience. Experts lead you through problems and solutions on a digital whiteboard as the discussion unfolds. Each begins with a short lecture (10–15 minutes) delivered by an AWS expert, followed by a 45 to  50-minutes Q&A session with the audience.

  • FWM203-R1 and FWM203-R2 Build extensible full-stack apps with AWS Amplify and AWS CDK

Front-end web and mobile developers build full-stack applications with cloud-powered features such as real-time application data storage with offline capabilities. AWS Amplify offers tools and services that help front-end developers quickly build full-stack applications and AWS-powered application backends. Unlike backend-as-a-service offerings, Amplify accelerates backend development without sacrificing the infrastructure flexibility required for production. In this chalk talk, learn about new Amplify features that can help you customize Amplify generated AWS resources, provide you with the full breadth of 175+ AWS services using AWS Cloud Development Kit (AWS CDK), and enable developers to modify deployment operations. With Amplify, front-end developers can get started quickly and have the flexibility to gradually modify and configure enterprise-scale workloads.

  • FWM302-R1 and FWM302-R2 Deep dive on authorization and data with AWS Amplify

Developers use AWS Amplify to quickly build full-stack mobile and web applications on AWS, with the flexibility to take advantage of the breadth and depth of AWS as their application evolves. This chalk talk details how virtually everything works in Amplify’s authorization and data categories. Topics will range from authentication and authorization to tokens, signatures, access control mechanisms, GraphQL queries, mutations, subscriptions, and data access patterns. The chalk talk covers details on the basics as well as theory and customizations.

Workshops

Workshops are two-hour interactive learning sessions where you work in small group teams to solve problems using AWS services. Each workshop starts with a short lecture (10–15 minutes) by the main speaker, and the rest of the time is spent working as a group. Come prepared with your laptop and a willingness to learn!

  • FWM202 Build a real-time serverless application to drive fan engagement

Organizations are building real-time applications to deliver engaging user experiences. Real-time application features can be complex and time-consuming to build. With AWS AppSync, developers can use GraphQL APIs to unify real-time data access across multiple data sources to engage millions of end users, with built-in caches to improve performance, subscriptions to support real-time updates, and client-side data stores that keep offline clients in sync. In this workshop, learn how to use AWS Amplify, AWS AppSync, Amazon EventBridge, and Amazon Location Service to build a serverless web application that engages fans at large events, from music to sports, with real-time chat features and location-based notifications.

  • FWM301 GraphQL race: Build a serverless, real-time app for live sports events

Increase fan engagement through entertaining user experiences that leverage real-time data. In this workshop, build an application for a fast-paced sports event: GraphQL Real-Time Race. Learn how to create a serverless web application that delivers real-time data to fans based on their location, event scoring, and event updates. Learn how to use AWS Amplify to connect the front end to a sophisticated backend with GraphQL, subscriptions, and geolocation that uses AWS AppSync, Amazon EventBridge, and Amazon Location Service to deliver real-time data to fans with the telemetry and positions of cars on the track. It’s off to the races!

  • MDS301 – Build an interactive live streaming platform

Do you want to live stream and interact with fans around the world? In this workshop, create engaging live experiences by building a fictional streaming platform that connects and entertains fans anywhere. Learn how to use AWS Amplify to build an interactive live video streaming application, including real-time GraphQL APIs backed by AWS AppSync and video streaming with Amazon Interactive Video Service, which is built on the same live streaming technology that powers Twitch. Hosted by experts in application development and streaming media, this workshop brings participants to the cutting edge of cloud-enabled interactive web video.
