Announcing the 10 finalists for the inaugural AWS Healthcare Accelerator program
We are excited to announce the selection of the 10 finalists and participants for the first ever AWS Healthcare Accelerator. These ten companies were selected from 427 applications from 31 countries around the world by a panel from Amazon Web Services (AWS) and KidsX. The application criteria called for healthcare-focused startups that had a validated solution along with existing revenue, customers, and US-based operations.
For our inaugural AWS Healthcare Accelerator, we collaborated with KidsX, a digital health accelerator owned by Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, to lead our delivery and operations of the program. We announced the program in June to help address the crucial need for healthcare innovation and collaborative solutions that can help healthcare customers respond to their challenges and rapidly innovate with data-driven and compliant solutions. The AWS Healthcare Accelerator is a new customer-focused program where selected startups receive technical, business, and go-to-market mentorship from experts from AWS and the KidsX network, up to $25,000 in AWS Promotional Credit, and collaboration opportunities with AWS healthcare customers, healthcare industry leaders, and members of AWS Partner Network (APN) looking for healthcare solutions.
The first ever AWS Healthcare Accelerator cohort represents a diverse group of healthcare solutions backed by diverse leadership, with 90% of the cohort having diversity of leadership and 70% being female founded. These 10 finalists are working to solve many of the strategic imperatives of AWS healthcare customers:
- AIVA is a Los Angeles based startup that is the voice operating system for better care. They offer a voice-powered care assistant for hospital patient rooms and senior living communities.
- b.well is a Baltimore-based, all-in-one integrated solution for consumer engagement, holistic health management, and cost containment. They use longitudinal aggregated data to paint a picture of health for each consumer and aggregate data to show population health.
- Ejenta is a San Francisco-based company that automates remote monitoring and remote care delivery using artificial intelligence (AI) exclusively licensed from NASA. Their “intelligent agents” learn from connected devices and electronic health record (EHR) data to monitor patients, predict health, and connect care teams.
- Giblib, headquartered in Los Angeles, creates a content streaming service-like educational experience for healthcare providers. It allows for the streaming of surgical videos and medical lecture from subject matter experts at the leading medical institutions on demand with unlimited access to receive continuing education credits.
- Gyant, based in San Francisco, is a 24/7 AI virtual assistant and digital front door solution for health systems that allows them to optimize digital patient journeys. It navigates patients to the right care setting and resources, while also providing simple appointment scheduling.
- Kaizen Health, from Chicago, is a healthcare logistics platform that connects healthcare and transportation to reduce the barriers for access in healthcare. It is used by health systems, payers, and senior living facilities.
- Medical Informatics Corp, based in Houston, is empowering hospitals with a new, data-driven, standard of care through the company’s FDA-cleared Sickbay™ virtual care and analytics platform. Sickbay provides a singular, interconnected architecture that helps hospitals to reduce costs, enhance clinical workflows and improve operational efficiencies by enabling rapid scaling of remote patient monitoring across any inpatient setting.
- Neuro Rehab VR, from Fort Worth, Texas, is a health technology company reinventing training exercises for physical and cognitive therapy by leveraging virtual reality and neuroplasticity for recovery. It allows providers to track their patients in real time and has shown increased patient engagement.
- OneRecord, headquartered in New York, is giving patients access to their data. Their app helps patients build a consolidated health record of their entire medical history in a single place.
- Pieces, based in Dallas, uses AI to assess and connect patients and health systems with solutions that address social determinants of health. They connect care providers to actionable data, people to services, and caseworkers to information. Pieces makes it easier to input, manage, store, organize, and gain insight from the data to connect with sources that meet social determinants of health.
Over four weeks, these ten startups will be virtually connected with AWS Partners, AWS technical experts, subject matter experts, and AWS healthcare customers. The goal is to allow them to experiment with AWS technologies and accelerate their growth through a foundation immersed in proper architecture, operations, and data in the cloud. The program begins with a deep dive and assessment of each startup to understand their current state. We then immerse them in a carefully designed curriculum focused on hands-on technical training and architectural review and provide each of them with up to $25,000 in AWS Promotional Credit.
The accelerator will culminate in a virtual demo day on October 28, 2021. Demo day is a showcase event featuring presentations from the startups and AWS leaders. Request an invite to the showcase event.
The AWS Healthcare Accelerator is being offered in collaboration and support from many of our AWS healthcare customers and collaborators such as Cerner, Change Healthcare, Cloudticity, Epic, GE Healthcare, Loka, The Main Stage, Olive, Philips, Redox, RedCrow, Rock Health, and SourceFuse, as well as KidsX member organizations including Atrium Health, Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, CVS Health, Geisinger, Houston Methodist, Kaiser Permanente, LifeBridge Health, Moffitt Cancer Center, NYU Langone, Penn Medicine, Providence, White Plains Hospital, and UC Davis Health.
