Sessions not to miss at AWS Public Sector Summit Online 2020

Update July 2020: AWS Public Sector Summit Online content is now available on demand through 30 September 2020.

We are less than two weeks away from the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Public Sector Summit Online and we are looking forward to “seeing” you there. Have you registered yet?

If not, don’t wait. From technical content—foundations or advanced—to mission-critical and spotlight, check out just a few of the featured sessions you will find this year at the AWS Public Sector Summit Online 2020:

Understanding how to optimize costs with the AWS Cloud (Level 100)

Moving from an on-premises environment into AWS is just the start of the journey towards cost optimization. In this session, David Lurie shares a range of ways to understand your costs and increase your return-on-investment.

Artificial intelligence and machine learning for a modern citizen service experience (Level 200)

Public sector organizations are experiencing a high volume of requests for health, financial, educational, and municipal service information. By modernizing citizen services, organizations can quickly answer questions and provide relevant information to its constituents. In this session, AWS solutions architect Ben Snively discusses common patterns and designs. Also, see a demonstration on how to build an automated question and answer (QnA) to answer COVID-19 related questions.

Remote learning: Education on the cloud (Level 200)

Universities, schools, colleges, and departments of education have moved online quickly and at scale to enable students and staff to continue learning, working, and researching. In this session, Jude Sheeran shares some lessons learned from customers such as organizations like Firefly and Blackboard, as well as considerations for long-term plans regarding curriculum, assessment and testing availability, resilient systems, security, and identity.

Defending your data against ransomware threats with secure storage (Level 200)

Governments, education, and healthcare organizations continue to face challenges with ransomware threats. In this session, Brad Dispensa will focus on the prevention and detection of ransomware attacks and how to align NIST guidance into AWS service alignment. We will cover how to protect your data with native AWS services and what to do if you are the victim of a ransomware incident.

Accelerating DoD Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) with AWS GovCloud (US) (Level 300)

The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) released the new Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) version 1.0 framework to assess and enhance the cybersecurity posture of 300,000+ organizations in the Defense Supply Chain (DSC). Prior to being awarded a contract the Defense Industrial Base (DIB) contractor, their supply chain will be required to be assessed and certified to CMMC levels specified in the new program solicitations. In this session, Ulysses Cubillos shares what compliance means for your organization’s workloads in the AWS Cloud.

Using AWS Ground Station to work with openly broadcast science data (Level 300)

Many high-value data products made available from agencies such as National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and United States Geological Survey (USGS), broadcast directly from the satellite. Traditional access patterns involve downlinking the data to an agency ground segment, processing by a science team, and subsequent product distribution through a program such as the NOAA Big Data Project or a NASA Distributed Active Archive Center (DAAC). In this session, AWS solutions architect Nathan McGuirt demonstrates how to take raw, public satellite data, received via AWS Ground Station, and process it into useable imagery using NASA-provided open source tools.

This new format may be different but the content is still as important as ever with your mission in mind. Don’t miss these sessions and more at the AWS Public Sector Summit Online on June 30. The sessions will also be available later on-demand, so register to keep updated.
