Supporting Student Entrepreneurs Around the World through the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards

Daniela Blanco, Ph.D. student in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at NYU Tandon and founder of her own business, Sunthetics, won the title of Global Champion and $75,000 worth of AWS Promotional Credits at the 2019 Entrepeneurs’ Organization (EO) Global Student Entrepreneur Awards (GSEA).

Fifty-two student entrepreneurs from across the globe competed at the 2019 EO GSEA. Participants were college or university students and entrepreneurs that are either the owner, founder, or primary shareholder of a business. Each participant competed locally with their peers with the hopes of representing their country as national winners at the global finals.

After two days of final-round competitions, Daniela was awarded the Global Champion title and AWS Promotional Credits to help support her growing business – Sunthetics.

Daniela started Sunthetics with the mission to make the chemical industry more sustainable. Her company developed a method to manufacture nylon using sunlight, eliminating the use of oil from the manufacturing process. Sunthetics’ solar-powered reactor uses 50% less energy than conventional methods while removing 20% of carbon emissions from its energy-intensive process.
