Concerts for Carers uses AWS Fargate, Amazon Aurora to deliver ticketing and events platform at any scale
In April 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, while frontline workers were under immense pressure, three experienced live event professionals wanted to thank all of the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) workers and paid care workers. They combined their extensive experience and knowledge to launch the not-for-profit charity Concerts for Carers, whose mission is to promote the mental health and well-being of all NHS workers and paid caregivers and to provide them with free tickets to live events in the UK as an ongoing gesture of thanks. This post highlights how they’ve used Amazon Web Services to meet their mission.
Streamlining digital transformation in German healthcare with AWS
Healthcare organizations worldwide are leveraging Amazon Web Services (AWS) and partner solutions to modernize, transform, and innovate their businesses. Ensuring the availability and security of critical applications is paramount. For example, two renowned German medical facilities, Fachklinikum Mainschleife and Max Grundig Klinik, needed to modernize their IT infrastructure to comply with stringent regulatory requirements outlined in the country’s Law for Accelerating the Digitalization of Healthcare (DigiG). Reliable and compliant service offerings from AWS enabled the medical facilities to provide reliable access to essential systems.
University of Nebraska-Omaha’s ITD Lab migrates to Amazon Aurora with Babelfish, reducing database costs
The IT for Development (ITD) Lab at the University of Nebraska at Omaha previously migrated their ETeams application to Amazon Web Services (AWS) because they did not want to manage the underlying infrastructure. With a limited staff, they could focus more on building new functionality in the ETeams application and less on performing mundane maintenance tasks. While the application was performing well, the ITD Lab’s director wanted to lower the monthly costs. This blog post explores an alternative to an SQL Server database that is just as performant but at a lower cost.
Using the cloud to advance collaborative water stewardship
Data is key to addressing current water challenges. The cloud can play a fundamental role in supporting organizations that are working toward solutions. Read this blog post to learn how Canadian non-profit organization DataStream provides an online platform for sharing information about freshwater health.
Alberta Motor Association transforms member experience and optimizes cost on AWS Cloud
The Alberta Motor Association (AMA) is a multi-service member-run organization that provides driving education, rewards, roadside assistance, travel, insurance, banking, and many other member-focused services. How Livingston Parish prepares for natural disasters by improving resiliency in the cloud
Natural disasters are devastating, often resulting in loss of life, massive property damage, and damage to the critical infrastructure that powers emergency services. This can prompt public sector organizations to consider building more resilient infrastructure. Such was the case for the 911 system in Livingston Parish, Louisiana, an agency that dispatches for 21 public safety agencies including law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services, and averages over 325 calls for service per day. After a major flood in 2016 knocked out their 911 system, they worked with AWS Partner TailorBuilt Solutions, LLC. to use AWS to become resilient against disaster, reducing service interruptions and improving response times.

How students help modernize rocket launches at the Western Range with the AWS Cloud
Vandenberg Space Force Base (VSFB), also known as the Western Launch and Test Range, is one of only two U.S. Space Force launch ranges. A safe rocket launch relies on the ability of Western Range meteorologists to gather and analyze weather data in real-time. The Western Range team wanted to switch to an agile, cloud-based solution that would streamline data analysis and keep operators safe—which prompted them to call on students and AWS Cloud experts at the California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) Digital Transformation Hub (DxHub), powered by AWS, to help VSFB prototype a solution.
How to build smart cities with FIWARE Orion Context Broker and Cygnus on AWS
Several smart cities use FIWARE, an open source framework supporting the development of smart solutions. FIWARE leverages sensing data from Internet of Things (IoT) devices, then collects, stores, and analyzes data with an API call. One FIWARE component, Orion Context Broker, gathers context information from diverse sources such as mobile apps, IoT devices, and social networking services, and manages the lifecycle of this context information, from registrations, updates, queries, and subscriptions. In this blog post, we address building Orion Context Broker on AWS. Learn how to deploy Orion Context Broker and Cygnus on AWS with AWS Cloud Development Kit (AWS CDK) and Docker Compose quickly.
